Storsanden - Lower Flekkosvatnet

Sunday, July 6 at 11:00 AM

Moderately demanding hike.

A great tour in beautiful hiking terrain!

We start from Storsanden in Flekkos.

We go up to Merkesteinen and then to Nedre Flekkosvatnet (312 m above sea level). The descent via Storskaret. Welcome to Follstranda!

The trip is in collaboration with IL Løken.

Håvard Olsen, tel. 45 959 86 914.

The trip takes about 4.5 hours and is 6 km long.

Sløelvtind

Sunday, July 13th at 11:00 AM

Very demanding trip.

The hike starts at Alvenes. From there we walk on a good path up to a beautiful small mountain lake, Litlvatnet (454 m above sea level). From the lake you can see the towering Sløelvtinden, and from there you can see where the easiest route up is. The last bit up is somewhat steeper than it may seem.

Once at the top at 927 meters above sea level, we are rewarded with a magnificent view, including towards Helldalisen and straight down into Stokkvatnet with its entire majestic mountain range around.

Petter Breivik, tel. 942 68 053.

A summit hike for the experienced hiker. Good shoes are essential.

Evening trip to Sætertinden

Saturday, July 26 at 8:00 PM

Demanding trip.

Meeting point: Ålstadkrysset.

Are you looking for a nice and "medium demanding" summit hike with a beautiful view of the Lofoten Mountains? Then Sætertind is a good choice for you. The hike is quite easy with mostly moderate inclines. There are no dangerous sections, but you have to walk a bit on gravel/stones right before you reach the summit plateau. At the top it can feel a bit "airy". NB! Steep on the northwest side. Sætertinden is 6.5 km and 550 m above sea level. Children who are used to hiking can easily take this hike.

Karen Elisa Stendal, tel. 45 950 54 944.

Nice and "moderately demanding" summit hike with beautiful views of the Lofoten Mountains.

Small Tindan

Saturday, August 9 at 10:00 AM

Demanding trip.

We start the hike at the barrier past the old ski resort in Nakken, Saursfjord. Småtindan is a great summit hike in the middle of Steigen, with a fantastic view over Steigen and across to the Lofoten Wall.

The climb up is steep, but the trip is also considered easy, as you walk all the way up. On the way up you pass Litl Bjørndalsvatnet. The road further winds nicely up the mountain, and you have the large Steigen mast at the top in sight the whole way. With us on the trip we have Bjørn Godal, who can tell us about exciting plans to establish a day trip cabin by the mast.

Bjørn Godal, tel. 45 950 68 985.

"Skåla rundt"

Saturday 13 September at 10.00

Demanding trip.

Hustoft- Grønnlikollen- Skarbotn.

"Skåla rundt" is one of the top ten summit hikes in Steigen. Start at Hustoft. Walk up the slope to Skåla. Then follow the somewhat steep and airy ridge up to Grøntinden (756 m). Here there is a 360 degree panoramic view!

We then walk down the ridge to Skardbotn and Skarbua. After a good rest, we return to Hustoft.

The trip is in collaboration with Leines IL.

Reidar Berg, tel. 45 415 41 366.

The trip takes about 5 hours and is 6.5 km long.

It can be purchased at www.booking.nordland.no, on all buses/boats and at the Sentrumsterminalen/turistkontoret in Bodø. The Travel Pass Nordland does not guarantee a place on the boat, so remember to reserve a place in the booking system.

50 years of local history.

In 1975, five history-loving residents of Steigen established the Steigen History Society, with the aim of promoting interest in local history, preserving local traditions, and presenting this in a separate Yearbook for Steigen. Many have contributed over the years, both with articles for the yearbook, contributors and audience members at the history society's lecture evenings and on historical walks. This year we celebrate our 50th anniversary. For fifty years we have worked to preserve and highlight Steigen's history for the residents of the municipality. The lecture evenings at the Steigen public library, which are organized together with the Nordland Museum by Eva Ditte Donat on the last Monday of each month, have become extremely popular with an average of 30 attendees.

Here you will get a mix of local speakers and historians from outside. Our historical walks, which are mostly arranged in the summer months, have also reached a history-interested audience. Løvøydagen in 2023 and the celebration of the National Law Jubilee in Steigen Church in the summer of 2024 are examples that were attended by a great many people.

So if you are interested in local history, you are most welcome to participate in our events, whether it is lecture evenings, historical walks. Or perhaps you can contribute a story, a historical photograph that can be presented in the yearbook or digital photo archive. Together we can continue to preserve history for future generations. Join us in the celebration. Let's make history come alive

Steigen Village Park and Rectory Garden

Old garden culture at Laskestad

Take a walk from the rectory at Laskestad, visit the old rectory garden with its venerable trees and follow the avenue down to the flower beds at Steigen village park!

Steigen rectory garden

In the 1870s, a particularly gardening-loving priest came to Engeløya in Steigen. Together with his wife Amalie, Reverend Carl Richard Wisløff transformed the rectory on Engeløya into an oasis with around 600 species of perennials, useful plants, shrubs and trees. The garden project was a collaboration with Fredrik Christian Schübeler, professor of botany at Tøyen Botanical Garden in Christiania. He wanted to find out how far north individual plants could survive and set seeds, while at the same time he was keen to spread gardening knowledge.

Open museum and cafe

from mid-June to mid-August. The garden is available 24 hours a day. Guided tour of the garden on request.

Steigen Village Garden

Many of the old perennial flowers from the vicarage garden have found a new home in the large round beds at Steigen village garden. In the sunny garden, the colorful traditional perennials such as Daglilje, Fjellflokk or Løytnantshjerte come to their full glory. The extensive collection of traditional northern Norwegian perennials is a feast for the eyes throughout the summer.

The Stephen Lily – Queen of the Garden

The most striking is perhaps the Caucasus Lily (Lilium monadelphum) or the Steigenlily, as it is called in Northern Norway.

The Stigel lily is a very beautiful, large-grown lily with large, bright, sunny yellow bells and a wonderful fragrance on warm summer evenings.

Helnessund is a beautiful small village located in Steigen municipality in Nordland which is known for its stunning nature, with dramatic mountains surrounding the area. Helnessund is a perfect place for those who want to experience the tranquility and beauty of northern Norwegian nature.

Fishing is an important part of the culture here, and many local residents engage in fishing both for recreation and as a source of income.

A great place for fishing enthusiasts!
